The Open Media Marketplace moves in strides
Xi’an, CN, 24 October 2009 – The twenty-fourth General Assembly (GA24) of the international Digital Media Project (DMP), has successfully concluded its activities today with a range of results.
The first is the review and approval of two major documents related to the current working draft 1.0 of the “Open Media Marketplace” (OMM). The goal of the OMM is to provide technical specifications and a reference implementation of a truly open digital media marketplace where users can easily design and configure the business role they intend to play.
The second is the contribution of the said document to a joint meeting held on the 24th of October with the MPEG Advanced IPTV Terminal (AIT) Ad Hoc Group. The seminal contributions have helped steer the AIT standardisation project in a direction that is compatible with the DMP OMM specification project.
The third is the adoption of the DMP logo, following an open call to contributors and selection of proposals.
The next DMP General Assembly (GA25) will be held on 23 January 2010 in Kyoto, JP. The main goals for the meeting will be the approval of the new version (3.3) of the Interoperable DRM Platform (IDP) specification and the coordination of an OMM-based proposal in response to the expected MPEG Call for Proposals on AIT technologies.
The Digital Media Project was chartered as a non-profit organisation on 1 December 2003 in Geneva, Switzerland, continuing the visionary work of the Digital Media Manifesto. Its mission is to promote the successful development, deployment, and use of digital media, while safeguarding the rights of creators and rights holders to exploit their works, the wishes of end users to enjoy fully the benefits of digital media, and the interests of value-chain players providing products and services.
The DMP Directors are: Marina Bosi (Stanford University, USA), Leonardo Chiariglione (SmartRM, USA), Touradj Ebrahimi (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland), Marc Gauvin (Sociedad Digital de Autores y Editores, Spain), Jinwoo Hong (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, Korea) and Tiejun Huang (Peking University, China).
