Title |
Traditional Rights and Usages (TRU) |
Nature of AD |
Recommended Actions |
Description |
The DMP Technical Specifications, namely Interoperable DRM Platform (IDP), Interoperable End-user Devices (IED) and possibly End-to-End Conformance (EEC) are designed to be capable of supporting a variety of usages, some of which are a direct mapping of usages that have existed since possibly the beginning of the media industry and have achieved different status in different jurisdictions. The TRU RA is developed with the purpose of facilitating the deployment of DMP IDPs and IEDs by providing a neutral description of the potential problems in their use. The target audience of the TRU RA are specific legislative environments to help them produce the most appropriate regulations of DMP IDPs and IEDs. |

Phasing out Analogue Legacies (PAL) |
Nature of AD |
Recommended Actions |
Description |
In the history of media different jurisdictions have developed different mechanisms to cope with the peculiar nature of intellectual property associated with media. In the transition to a full-digital world these mechanisms show increasingly their inability to cope with the new digital environment that is being created. The DMP Technical Specifications, namely Interoperable DRM Platform (IDP), Interoperable End-user Devices (IED) and possibly End-to-End Conformance (EEC) are likely to render obsolete several of those mechanisms. On the other hand the management of the transition is is by no means straightforward. The PAL RA is developed with the purpose of helping legislative environments to plan a phasing-out policy by highlighting the DMP IDP and IED features that justify an eventual abolishment of unjustified analogue legacies. |

Deployment of Broadband Access (DBA) |
Nature of AD |
Recommended Actions |
Description |
Broadband access can provide significant benefits to citizens because it lets them access and communicate digital media in much richer form that possible today. Most of the new possibilities, however, require or are greatly enhanced by the availability of Interoperable DRM Platform (IDP), Interoperable End-user Devices (IED) and possibly End-to-End Conformance (EEC) . Conversely, a diffuse deployment of broadband will accelerate the introduction of IDP and IED. The DBA RA is developed with the purpose of identifying the principal obstacles the prevent an accelerated deployment of broadband access with features (e.g. bandwidth) capable of supporting rich digital media. |

Development of and Access to Standards (DAS) |
Nature of AD |
Recommended Actions |
Description |
Standards play an important role in creating and sustaining a vibrant digital media industry. However, actual exploitability of standards is becoming more and more difficult and is endangering the nascent digital media market. The DAS RA is developed with the purpose of making a survey of the most serious obstacles and making proposals that can improve the way standards are developed and accessed by industry users. |
