Hotel information
Staying in Turin is the preferred way for those who aim to have an experience of the old capital of the "Kingdom of Sardinia" that unified Italy almost 150 years ago or for those who want to make advance scouting of the city hosting the Winter Olympics in 2006. You can find a list of hotels at
http://www.agendaonline.it/hotel/piemonte/torino.htm
or, more specifically
http://www.venere.com/search/?lg=en&geoid=778&city=TORINO&ref=3170
Please note that the meeting venue is about 25 km from the city and it usually takes 45 min by taxi. In case of need you can ask the driver to call the host at one of the two telephone numbers for directions.
If you want to stay near the meeting venue you can choose a hotel near the lakeside of the Lago di Avigliana and savour a bit of history by contemplating the millennium old imposing Sagra di San Michele towering from 1,000 metres above. Two hotels are suggested
1st hotel
Hotel Hermitage |
12, VIA SAGRA S. MICHELE |
I-10051 Avigliana (TO) |
ITALY |
Tel/Fax: +39 011 936 91 50 |
Rooms cost 60 € (single) and 75 € (double). Reservation either by telephone or fax.
2nd hotel
Hotel Chalet del Lago |
via Monginevro, 26 |
10057 - AVIGLIANA (TO) |
ITALY |
TEL. +39 011 936 92 25 WEB: |
FAX. +39 011 936 92 81 |
WEB: http://www.italynetguide.com/alberghi/homepage.asp?nomec=9822104987 |
from this you can see that rooms cost 52 € (single), 67 € (double) and 77.50 € (triple).
Distance from the venue is less than 10 km and it should take no more than 15-20 min to get there.
Travel information
Turin has some 30 direct flight connections a day to such European cities as Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Munich, Paris and others. The best connected cities are Frankfurt, Munich and Paris, each with 4 flights a day.
It is advisable not to land in Milan (Linate or Malpensa) unless you intend to rent a car (there are 120/150 km between Malpensa/Linate and Turin). A train connects Turin Caselle airport to the city, but taxi is recommended.
Please look at http://www.turismotorino.org/ for further information on the city.
